They came from all corners of the earth— black cattle from the north, steppe-colored horses, giggling donkeys, silent camels, balls of wool moving in herds, and a tapir that looked at us as if it understood.
So now they stand together, my mammals - a silent circle of warm life, borne by earth, grass, and dust. A circle that closes, and yet continues within us.
